About Mauricie National Park

Mauricie National Park is located in the Laurentian Mountains region of Quebec, roughly halfway between Montreal and Quebec City. Covering over 536 square kilometers (132,099 acres), the park preserves extensive boreal and mixed forest ecosystems, along with more than 150 lakes and rivers. The terrain is characterized by rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and glacially-formed lakes that provide habitats for a variety of wildlife species such as moose, black bear, beaver, and numerous bird species. The park's history is tied to early logging activity, with remnants of old logging roads visible, but much of the forest has since been allowed to regenerate, offering visitors a chance to experience rich natural environments. Outdoor enthusiasts have access to over 150 kilometers (93 miles) of well-maintained hiking and mountain biking trails, many of which lead to scenic lookouts and peaceful lake shores. Canoeing and kayaking along the park's vast waterways are popular in summer, while during winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing attract visitors. The park features several campgrounds and backcountry camping zones, providing an immersive wilderness experience. Notable landmarks include the breathtaking Wapizagonke Lake and the Saint-Maurice River, which meanders through the park. Mauricie National Park’s combination of natural beauty, well-developed recreational infrastructure, and varied outdoor activities makes it a premier destination for nature lovers seeking tranquility and adventure in Quebec.
